Many people who appear to have the best physiques, confidence, or discipline struggle w/ their body image. I want to share a practice that I’ve guided women from all over the world through for the last 5+ years that has been VERY effective. I combined psychology, personal development, mindfulness, meditation, & other methods to create this and it’s something I love to incorporate at my live events too! (This year we are taking it up a notch further too! I can’t wait!!) Here’s the basics: Lie or sit down & perform a body scan Tense up your body 3x & release each time with the intention to connect to your body Then for each body part from head to toe say “I love you” 1 at a time “I love you tummy, I love you arms, I love you__” Notice where resistance comes up, don’t fight it, just take mental note. Once you complete it go back to the areas where you felt the most resistance. Think of 1+ things that you can choose to love/appreciate about this part of your body. Then go through each of these areas again including the reason after “I love you”. Ex: “I love u tummy, thank u for breaking down so many nutrients for me so I can perform & function optimally” FEEL THE EMOTION AS YOU SAY IT This works because of a few reasons: ➡️Connection to self & body ➡️Identification of functions of body to detach from physical appearance related distress ➡️Increases awareness so when you find yourself hating these parts of you you’ll be anchored into why these parts of you are awesome ➡️Personal declarations Of course this doesn’t address every facet of body image, but it’s a great ritual & can show you where you need more healing. I have a full guided recording of this exercise that all clients and on-demand mindset coaching platform members have access to. You can learn more about the platform and join now here: www.celestial.fit/ondemand ![]() Someone who has a BBQ planned might complain about the rain while someone who has to work all weekend might not mind it Your perception dictates the meaning of your life. It is rarely ever about the experience, event, or behavior but rather the way you look at it If you are in a room with two friends who are texting and giggling, you might assume they’re saying things about you so you start to feel hurt or self conscious or embarrassed so you run out of the room and ignore them for the rest of the day But what your assumption prevented you from experiencing is the funny meme they were making to surprise you in an effort to make you feel better about how your boss had been treating you at work Instead you got into conflict due to the assumption Interesting how that works isn’t it? This is the underlying structure of REBT (rational emotive behavior therapy) proposed by American Psychologist, Albert Ellis’s, on how we experience life He theorized it’s not what we experience but rather how we perceive it The core of the method is the ABCs A stands for the activating event B stands for the beliefs about the event C stands for the consequences (such as emotions or behaviors) due to the B beliefs For example... Activating event could be the scale showing you gained weight The irrational belief or assumption might be that you are a failure and never going to get where you want to be anyways The consequence of this is you end up binge eating because it doesn’t matter anyways... . Example scenario 2: Activating event: you are home alone Belief associated: the only time you can eat whatever you want is when you are home alone otherwise people will judge you for having chocolate and chips and cookies and not weighing out everything you consume Consequence: you eat as much as you can until people come back and then feel really ashamed and guilty and judge yourself Last example... Event: You get broken up with Belief: Unworthy of love and hopeless, forever alone Consequence: shut out from the world, turn down a date, stop showing love to yourself, and listen to depressing playlists Any of these familiar to you? The point is not that we ignore the feelings you have which are normal and healthy such as being sad after a breakup but we focus on facts rather than assumptions...it is raining, my friends are laughing and texting, I’m home alone, the scale displayed a higher number, I am single...instead of my weekend is ruined, my friends are making fun of me, I can only be free when no one sees, I’m a failure & won’t get anywhere, I am unworthy Emotions are important but when driven by irrational thought patterns and cognitive distortions they can lead us down dark rabbit holes Did anything happen recently that you could shift your perspective on to create a healthier stream of events? HOW ELIZABETH ELIMINATED BINGE EATING, ANXIETY AT SOCIAL EVENTS, AND OVERWHELMING FOOD THOUGHTS5/28/2021 When Elizabeth first came to me, she was struggling with binging and feelings of restrictions with off-limits foods. She was constantly thinking about food and had food anxiety going into social situations that distracted her from making memories.
She hadn't even realized she had labeled so many foods as off-limits which made her struggle to fit anything into her macros. Her feelings of defeat and frustration were strong and she believed setting any nutritional goals was only setting herself up for failure since she was binging on a weekly basis already. Through our work together, Elizabeth decreased her food focus and eliminated her binging tendencies completely. She has started incorporating her favorite foods in a way that doesn't feel restrictive and no longer has the fear of any food triggering a binge or creating an urge to. Elizabeth has also regained her confidence to set nutritional goals, knowing she has a new mentality around nutrition that will help her make progress towards them This program is for anyone that's struggling with their relationship with food, who's struggling with binging, and overwhelming food thoughts. If you're feeling stuck like Elizabeth was, know that you don't have to stay this way! I'm here to help you. Click HERE to learn more! @bambodynutrition deliveries make me so happy!!! This package contained a new fav treat of mine, party cakes! But unfortunately I’m done with them already lol so they’ll be in my next order If you’re up to try some bams or restock, make sure to use my discount code “sisterhood” this month or check the highlights on my page or the discount section of the link in my bio @celestial_fit Looking forward to hearing what you think!😍🤩 Anti-diet culture is the latest, and sneakiest, diet of all. Whether it is going 'all in', rebelling against all 'fitness influencers', or leaving behind parts of you to join this movement to find solace in your decision to change...I believe anti-diet culture can be doing more harm than good
This is not to say I am pro-diet, or can't recognize the positive intentions behind the anti-diet movement...but I want to make it clear that blanket statements about the diet being the problem or the fitness industry being the problem or bodybuilding or sports etc is the problem is really halting the potential for inner growth and peace that the people who tend to fall into the anti-diet culture movement truly need If you read each of my bullet points outlined in the infographic, I hope that you can see the core of my argument is not that we should tell everyone to diet, but rather we should ask the real important questions I honestly think we are living in a world that promotes seeking to place blame faster than seeking personal responsibility This is a shame because as humans, we gain so much more from feeling our emotions, reflecting on their lessons, and applying them moving forward but instead, cancel culture tells us that if we can silence it then it no longer exists... Unfortunately, especially with eating, this is far from the truth Eating is rarely just about food, or at least that's something anti-diet culture and I can agree on... Anti-diet culture suggests that diets are bad because they tell you to be more desirable or worthy then you must diet...I agree with them that this is wrong!!! But where we have a disconnect is in the stand against this idea Why can't someone be... -anti-diet and pro-structure? -anti-diet and pro-health? -anti-diet and pro-pursuit of challenges and fulfillment through striving for more? Sure, you can leave the terrible fitness, bodybuilding, and pro-diet movements but then what? You join a cult that tells you how horrible you were before, how science is fake, how weight does not have any impact on health, how your nutrition should be about what you feel like rather than what you need?? NO, the fitness and bodybuilding industry is not perfect (hello, that is what I am trying to change) BUT do we need to be so black or white all the time?! Is this not what what contributed to the problem in the first place??? good v bad, worthy v unworthy, fat v fit...?? and if you can't / won't be happy when you lose 10lbs what makes them think you will be happy when you gain them?? It frustrates me when positive messages get clouded with surface level solutions Anti-diet in itself seems to be a diet with the intention of supporting your mental health but sneaky in that it strips you of all you knew to shove a new pill down your throat that says the only way is this way... As harsh as I may sound, I just get so fired up about the way anti-diet culture is promoted with so much negative energy that seems to be backed by justifications, blame, and resentment I am here to tell you you can achieve your goals AND be at peace with food and your body Blaming diet culture for someone's problems is very behavior-based in nature, and if behavior only therapy is not proven to be as beneficial as therapies which also consider cognition, then why are we only addressing the behavior?? I could continue, but I will leave it to you now, what do you think about this topic? If you want to read more about my thoughts on this I put together an article, that features experiences of many other women from various walks of life, which you can read here: https://www.elephantjournal.com/2020/07/how-i-healed-my-relationship-with-food-you-can-too/ ![]() I can look at my body & see more tissue, fat & muscle. On surface level, I can perceive how I look differently than someone else might perceive it. Same thing applies in a prep. But at the end of the day, only I know what has truly happened to bring me here. It goes beyond what you eat & how you train. There are so many variables! I finally feel I’m at this point in improvement season where I’m comfortable with letting go of the ideas that won’t serve me & to only focus on what will. I have to be real with myself & I am grateful my coach is real with me, too. This week when I saw him he really reinforced that I’m fine where I am & a year of growth will be much more beneficial to me than trying to mini cut, build, mini cut, build... I really appreciated that reminder because it’s so easy to get caught up in our fears. For me it was fear of having not built muscle since my show (literally nightmares of me looking the same or smaller on stage meaning none of my hard work mattered—deeper lessons for me to focus on here honestly), fear of losing what I’ve built, fear of more discomfort & weight gain that sometimes feels out of my control despite my positive efforts. But that’s it, positive efforts. I can’t fear what I need for success. In growing my business there’s been times where I want to change things or back track just to be comfortable, but when I would it would only set me back. Same thing with bodybuilding. Entertaining distracting ideas will only detract from the growth I am committed to. I feel more at peace with that & can acknowledge my efforts in the gym will rationally pay off, my commitment to my dreams will come to fruition because I’ve found sustainable measures, my body will continue to change & I accept that. I am willing & ready to keep doing the work to grow and the more I focus on how much more effort and drive I have in the gym than I ever have before, then the more likely I’ll be to incur more of that drive and set a new normal so next prep, I can make strides toward that goal with a level head & clear vision. Who else is in improvement season? What do you choose to focus on? I am so grateful for the connections made, lessons learned, and support system fostered at my Build More than Just a Body Live Events.
I am always amazed by the stories and experiences shared when similar hearts and souls come together. My adjective of choice tends to be “awesome” and if you listen to the Confessions of a Bikini Pro podcast, you know I probably say it a lot. In fact, Robbie’s Alexa used to always activate when I’d say awesome (so I’d be on a client call or recording and she’d try to chime in lol) and eventually she seemed to have realized I wasn’t talking to her that’s how much I say it. I think we all have those times or words where we are like “damn I keep saying that I’m so annoyed I keep saying that” and I remember this one episode I said it so much, and I wasn’t the only one who noticed! 2 years ago I got this review on the podcast. The good news is, I found it so funny because it’s so true. I told Robbie about it recently and he was like oh my gosh you just need to self troll. And of course if you listen to the podcast or watch videos of mine I tend to sign off with “I hope you have an amazing rest of your day, night, or morning. Wherever you are in the world, just make it awesome”. So I made this shirt under the idea of Robbie Robbins to self-troll because he knew true fans would “get it”. Did you? It’s a lil gift to myself for the years of podcasting that have been and will be. Life is so much more fun when we can learn to laugh at ourselves and embrace our quirks! This does not equate to making fun of yourself! It’s about being at peace with who you are and truly accepting it. This shirt totally represents my acceptance of continuous growth, self-awareness, and commitment to making sure everyone knows how awesome they are, life can be, and you name it. What do you think? Do you love it? Do you get it? Did you notice that? Will you now never listen to the podcast the same way? Do you have a word you say too much too? |
