Chop sweet potato into fry form, broil on high until crispy. (Can spray or coat with an oil of choice if you want even more crispness or flavor). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In a small bowl combine: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -One heaping tablespoon of canned plain pumpkin ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -1 Tblsp Walden farms syrup or similar (can use packets of stevia, stevia drops, honey, agave, whatev!!!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -Coconut flour or xanthum gum to make it get more of a dippy but sticky texture ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -Add in pumpkin pie spice or your fav warm spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, etc. do this until you reach your desired taste :)) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Enjoy!!! I’d probably not coat the sweet potatoes with olive oil and would just broil them alone then do butter spray w a coat of cinnamon and stevia on them so it’s more sweet rather than savory 😊 ![]() 🔥WINNING IS THE ONLY OPTION🔥 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am always in it to win it & to me winning is what happens in the hours in the gym, mental hurdles hopped, heart to hearts with my coaches, meals eaten, & progress made… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t going to these shows to progress/move up as an athlete…I want to win, I want to place higher than the girl next to me and higher than my last self, I want to walk away with hardware and I want my hard work validated in this way and as a COMPETITIVE athlete, I ask, isn’t that a part of the sport? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’d be ridiculous to think that NFL players aren’t trying to win the Super Bowl, NBA players aren’t after the Championship ring, or that olympians aren’t after the gold medal. It’s the same for bodybuilding, the competition is real. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And what’s crazier? When you are judged in this sport, you receive feedback long after the competition day is over so you cannot adjust right then and there on stage (like if you are playing a sport and make the wrong move then can readjust for the next point). Often times it TAKES MONTHS of adjusting in bodybuilding! It is growing, conditioning, posing, presentation, & the entire look! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While we can argue and know that It’s not the most important thing in the world to have medals, trophies, crowns, or swords...and I certainly wouldn’t make that my end all be all, we can also argue how damn good it feels to win. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Taken, from an Eminem song, ‘a plaque of platinum status is whack if I’m not the baddest’. When I say I want to win, what I really mean is...if I step on stage and bring my A game, I already know I’ve won in bringing my best that day and to the entire prep leading up to it...then GREAT I did what I’m meant to do as an athlete.... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ AND it is OKAY if I want to win something externally for the sport, for the love / respect of representing the sport I eat, sleep, & breathe. I can still represent, love, & live this life without a pro card, medals, trophies, etc. but those things are great in supporting the growth of my messages / purpose & showing even more people what is possible! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My point is, ‘winning’ can take many forms. We ‘win’ when we commit, show up, make choices, stay on top of our actions, never slack, always give more, build something better, overcome challenges, bring our best, & NEVER cheat. We also ‘win’ when we are the last person standing on the stage or even the last 5. We ‘win’ when we earn qualifications or points or standings. We ‘win’ in different ways, & each way presents its own real internal reward in the process & the journey. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The most important thing is that we act like a winner, believe we are winners, recognize our wins, & be willing enough to KNOW the difference between a win that satisfies ourselves, & a win that satisfies others. Define your wins today, so you can celebrate (or learn) from the outcome of tomorrow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How do you define winning? ⬇️⬇️⬇️ ![]() WHAT, WHY, and HOW OF SUPPLEMENTING WITH BCAAS (a Straightforward explanation) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BCAAs are common talk/knowledge in the fitness industry, but aren’t always used optimally & there are so many different ways people do use them! So, you might be wondering what they REALLY are and how to get the MOST out of them for muscle gains, recovery, and optimizing your workouts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Before I switched my major to Psychology I studied Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics for my Associates degree and many of my main courses (yum lol!). I also spend a lot of my ‘free time’ reading research papers, studies, and learning from the best (yes...I am a hoot!!!) so I can support my clients and even my audience to the best of my ability! So now after reading that maybe you can trust me more with this info? 😉 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are 20 essential amino acids, 3 of which are most notable for Increasing skeletal muscle mass; leucine, isoleucine, and valine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s important to use a product that has a 2:1:1 ratio with these BCAAs because it gets used directly by the muscle fibers for energy. Allowing for less fatigue and more stamina, as well as fat loss or minimal fat gain due to isoleucines magic ability to activate the PPAR which is a long acronym for a receptor with many different jobs, one of which being turning on genes for fat burning and inhibiting genes that wanna store the fat! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Take at least 5g of these BCAAs before and after a workout to get the most results. You could also add in more leucine after your workout for greater protein synthesis. Take this WITH a protein shake for optimal recovery and muscle growth. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Myself, and other athletes, rely on branch chain amino acids to help with our progress, recovery, & building / protecting muscle. Treat your body like your ally and it will always work with you. MY REAL & RAW LIFE UPDATE... I have been learning so much after my most recent show and am still learning as I go. One thing that’s for sure is I have found so much peace in taking time every day to write or think up statements like this, formulate beliefs that serve me, and transform any loatheful thoughts into loving ones. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In order for me to be able to do what I love, my body has to begin functioning the way it’s meant to. If I don’t take care of myself with loving actions, thoughts, and belief patterns then it will not allow me to do what I love when I want to do it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I need to start decreasing my cardio, upping my food intake, and recomping my body without going so far that I’m doing a cut that kills me heading into another show. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My body hasn’t had a menstrual cycle (period) in 2 years aside from one that was forced by my doctor with the prescription of progesterone for 10 days. This got my period to show up but then it was never to be found again lol. Even though this is pretty common and doesn’t necessarily mean problems for everyone, I still have to get it in check and my coach actually wants me to regulate it before I compete again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now imagine for one second, you haven’t had your period in 2 years, you’re already up 10 pounds from stage weight (and advised not to go too much more), you are told you also need to begin packing on Muscle and decrease cardio (which will cause a shift likely to create recomp which is good but can require lots of self loving thoughts w some fat gain that comes with it), oh and you want to compete in February but with the way your body is functioning you have to regain hope and belief that your period will come back and regulate, your body fat will not surpass muscle growth in a way that creates more struggle than progress, and all this must be managed in a matter of a few short months... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am embracing this challenge as I go forward in my lifestyle and in my journey. More to come...more to share. I’m learning to be more kind to myself, to be okay with the things I need to do, and begin treating what I have left untreated for so long. And reminding myself I am capable & everything is always working out as it’s meant to. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am finally seeing my doctor on Tuesday to get an action plan in place for what i shared in my last post. I am realizing that putting off treatment could now have hindered my growth and opportunity moving forward. This is my reminder for EVERYTHING In life, especially with all of this... to do the damn thing, the damn thing you know, in fact, every damn thing, and once the damn things are done, KEEP GOING! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have to accept what comes with the actions I NEED to take and take full responsibility knowing that if I don’t take them, I will only suffer the consequences moving forward. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now, listening, honoring, and loving my body is taking on a whole new meaning. I’m letting go of shame, guilt, comparison, and pride when it comes to the way I look, and remembering that this is MY life...all of this is up to me...I can’t let the demons take control. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My mind needs so much TLC too, competing has been so much of my focus that after my last show a lot of my anxieties surfaced. I have decided to look for a therapist again since it’s been so long since I’ve seen mine and It helped me so much when I was depressed, suicidal, and anxious. There’s no shame in getting help!!! It’s better to acknowledge where help is needed than pretend things are ‘fine’ and eventually lose control / see it get worse... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now I must be mindful, through all of this; I MUST LOVE IN ORDER TO HEAL AND I MUST HEAL IN ORDER GROW AND I MUST GROW IN ORDER TO LIVE MY DREAMS. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I feel the emotions, I feel them deeply, I still don’t have this all figured out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 51 weeks of prep ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (started prep for my 1st Muscle Contest show of the season in May ‘17) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 25 weeks of reversing/building ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5 competitions ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 0 weeks of hatred or loathe for the sport... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am so glad I fell in love with this sport after taking time to work on my mental health and personal development after my very first show way back in 2015. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This has been non-stop for me ever since then and I am so grateful for this lifestyle. It has become more and more like first nature to be in this mindset. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There is so much I want to accomplish, and Which I want to/need to be, much of which simply requires time, trust, patience, dedication, and perseverance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Good thing I love this so much! 😉 I ain’t in no rush, even when you get what you set out for there’s always another next level so I’m just going to keep focusing on what’s required of me right now and allow the outcomes to fall into place as they are meant to. I know that if I take the action necessary, it’s inevitable...so I will allow this to unfold as it is meant to. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am proud of myself, As mentioned in a previous post, I brought my BEST look to the stage for my last show of this season and am looking forward to building and maximizing the last few months of the year to grow mentally and physically to compete again around February 2019. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am so in love with this journey and process that I am going to soak up every moment of it. The sport is not experienced in 12 or 16 week preps. It’s experienced in the details, the commitment to the long term game. Passion lies in the persistence and the pursuit of continued excellence. I know I am competitive, I know I have up-levelled my physique, and I know there’s always room for improvement. I’ll be sending photos in for judges feedback & continue to WORK! ![]() Self-loathe is a clear reflection of inner conflict between the ideal version of yourself and the identity you have now. You know you can be more and want to be more yet you aren’t there yet... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So hatred for your current self manifests through your thoughts, words, actions, and especially beliefs! You begin to judge, doubt, and speculate upon yourself instead of accept, believe, and empower yourself. But If we constantly exist in a loatheful state we are incapable of growing at the rate we need/desire for our highest self to exist. Instead of focusing on what we don’t have yet or better yet, who we haven’t become yet, we need to focus on getting to know our next level identity, asking; ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What does this version of me: believe, do, think about, surround herself with? By getting to know the version of yourself you seek to become, you are opening up a higher level of consciousness or self awareness that allows you to begin seeing where you are falling short & how you can improve. If you find yourself getting caught up in all the things ‘you’re not doing, should be doing, haven’t done yet, don’t have, keep failing at...’ then you’ll only continue to expand energy there. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s when we learn & grow through this, & LOVE ourselves enough to give more to ourselves so we CAN improve; THEN that is when we begin to see our best self start to play with us, become the main driver in every action, & the regulator of thoughts&beliefs. But it can also work against us if we let it consume every fiber of our being that we forget how far we have come and how capable we are. Or we get so caught up in the chase that we devalue the journey... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There is no finish line. No ‘end’. Even champions defend their title, find a new challenge, and set the bar higher for themselves and others. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There’s this illusion that when we have or achieve x, y, z then all our dreams will have come true. But the truth is, all your dreams are coming true because of this moment RIGHT NOW; embrace it, love it, and more than anything else EXPERIENCE it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you noticed? With every accomplishment we make we celebrate the actions we took and challenges we overcame that got us there more than we focus on the accomplishment itself. When people win a title or a trophy, they are not interviewed on how much they like their medal or how good the crown looks on them, they are asked what this process was like, what went through their mind, how did that arrive here and WHAT IS NEXT? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So LOVE your life right now. LOVE the pain, the reward, the adversity.
