![]() Many people mistake freedom with a loss of control or discipline & often times people tell me they don’t trust themselves to make the “right” choice But it’s all about intention… With an intention aligned with your values, you can see the benefit to your choices, protocols, & commitments It’s not so much about what you do or how you do it but WHY Freedom = choice = autonomy = deeper consideration & mindfulness = increase in self-esteem If we limit freedom, restrict choices, depend only on “shoulds” or what others tell us to do, & reduce awareness of choices then we become mindless Most of the people I work with who do not trust themselves have not developed proof that they can, exist in autopilot or “robot” mode, & have not produced results without the strict guidance of someone else or a protocol This is why some people think fall into the trap of yo-yo dieting or post show rebound to hopping into a prep to post-show rebound etc We need to develop a level of trust, acceptance, commitment, and understanding for every action we take so that we may become more intentional If we only do something because we were “told to” then we do not see the value or benefit in doing it Much like holding the door for someone because we are taught to is not as likely to persist as a behavior but holding the door for someone because it is considerate of their presence, shows them someone cares, allows them to not worry about putting all their stuff down etc would be a more meaningful reason to do it and more motivating When committing to any protocol I encourage you to consider: 1. Why am I really committing to this? 2. What are the benefits to this choice outside of aesthetics? (Or if it’s unrelated to physique you might say outside of money or status or title—-beyond the surface!) 3. How does this support me in the way I see myself & my life? These questions can support maintaining autonomy and strengthen the connection between choices & values as well as reasons to sustain efforts outside of 1 goal Restriction or pressure is not the same as discipline Discipline with commitments you feel confident you can sustain or build the esteem to is much more important

It was on my heart to pursue even more perspective, insight, knowledge, and experience so that I could provide an even better experience for this community and all of my clients
When I wrote my essay to get into the masters program I was nervous to tell them about my vision thinking I might be judged or ridiculed but throughout the entire experience, the opposite was true I was supported for the work I had already done in my psychology bachelors program and then encouraged throughout my masters program to keep the focus on the mission It was really amazing how much support I got from fellow classmates and professors, especially with how often i challenged the norm of âdiet cultureâ¦all inâ¦.body positivityâand interpretations of sport and psychology within the field that have been perpetuated for clinicians to promote to clients which I feel really went against the counseling ethical code and expectation of client autonomy⦠So the support and openness of colleagues really allowed me to fulfill my intention of bridging the gap I had classmates tell me that I helped them see bodybuilding differently and learn about it which was soooo rewarding to hear A big issue in the field is how often competitors and athletes have to defend or explain themselves which is why I do believe the service I offer, along with my personal experience and growth through competing, is unmatched I hope to continue bridging the gap and providing this space and service to the fitness community so that people can really see and know that you actually CAN achieve your fitness and physique goals while maintaining and improving your mental health If youâd like access to any of my free resources or to explore how we can work together CLICK HERE letâs #BUILDMORETHANJUSTABODY Clip from @nicoleferrierfitness podcast september 2022! ![]() ❤️ consistent nourishment & movement of the body which provides your soul a home for this human experience ❤️ willingness to accept parts of yourself that are hard to look at and learn ways to communicate with those parts to support your whole being ❤️ dedication to feeling emotions and learning from them as they provide insight into values, needs, history, desire, and yourself ❤️ choosing to see your innate enoughness even when you make mistakes, are hurt, have let yourself down or not met a standard, and don’t feel valuable ❤️ letting yourself be loved by others ❤️ expressing yourself fully and openly even at the risk of loss or pain because you know you’re worthy of the potential for and inevitability of love, support, community ❤️ making time for yourself on a daily, weekly, biweekly, etc basis ❤️ recognition and celebration of unique gifts that are all you without titles, statistics, or labels…celebrating you for being you ❤️ following through on goals when difficult and also knowing there are times to adjust goals in an effort to support consistency & achievement ❤️ prioritizing your peace of mind over your pace of growth, status development, outcome achievement ❤️ deciding every day that you deserve time with yourself and space from external sources because you know your relationship with self is as sacred as one with a higher power that made you ❤️ setting boundaries and communicating with love and consideration for self and others ❤️ making an effort to connect even when you just want to isolate ❤️ proactively preparing for a time when a less than best version of you may become dominant & need extra support ❤️ acknowledging that even though others may be commended for being a certain way or doing certain things it does not mean you must emulate that to be worthy or valid ❤️ taking time to recognize & repair past wounds, unhealthy beliefs, disordered behaviors, & stinkin thinkin even when these things can be providing comfort or coping for us in many ways ❤️ trusting your gut & honoring internal nudges What are some others? How will you subject yourself to stress today so you can begin proving to yourself you’re capable of overcoming and facing it? What will you shift about your perception of stress or hardship to support you in celebrating it more than resisting it? #BUILDMORETHANJUSTABODY . These are the peach perfect leggings (small) and straight shooter sports bra (medium) ![]() I changed my life in so many ways in the last year. I did things for myself that were scary & would change my “norm” but that my soul knew was best for me I reflected on how much had to shift in me in order to make these shifts in my life I made scary decisions, took leaps of faith, had huge commitments I stuck to, & major moments of really tuning in to my soul & trusting in a higher power that I could make these choices & would be okay Something bodybuilding has taught me which has contributed to this is the inevitability of impermanence (the body is never the same, seasons come & go with expectations, standards…) I’ve come to realize & embrace that nothing is permanent as everything is always evolving in some way. Even energy, which cannot be destroyed, takes on new forms I myself have taken on a new form My life opened up when I decided it was time I honor & value myself in EVERY area I developed a more secure attachment with myself which allowed me to act on the calling to liberate myself from the things which were keeping me stuck in undesirable patterns I faced betrayal, anxiety, confusion, doubt, denial…but felt more prepared to stand up for myself & my needs because: 1- Taking hit after hit in my life with pain & suffering that was unimaginable gave me more endurance & resilience to face difficult realities I lived in 2- I felt comfortable with the idea of letting go because I knew I could support, comfort, & validate myself. Plus, I have a strong support system 3- I consistently live with my values in mind & when they were being deprioritized/ sacrificed due to fears that were coming from other deep rooted beliefs or experiences…I recognized this & ask if I would rather live life as it is & likely continue to feel worse or endure a short sharp & potentially nagging pain that’d ultimately free me once processed 4- I evaluated my needs, desires, & beliefs about myself & I repeated, “I am worthy of what I want & deserve what I desire” so when I wasn’t acting accordingly, it was glaringly obvious The mission is always to #BUILDMORETHANJUSTABODY ONE decision can change your entire life & provide space to receive all that you truly desire❤️I changed my life in so many ways in the last year. I did things for myself that were scary & would change my “norm” but that my soul knew was best for me ![]() On a flight yesterday, I spoke with someone about how unfortunate it is to see people fall prey to the convenience & comforts readily available to us all the time as I believe it stunts the opportunity to learn in difficulty They asked if I have fallen into a trap of comfort before & I realized I haven’t let myself get stuck in one I love my life & all parts of myself but I haven’t always had it easy I’ve been blessed with security, love, & support that not everyone gets & I was given opportunities with the wherewithal to take ones that came or to make some But I have also faced incredible challenges…things I’d never wish on anyone even for the lessons I’ve learned I’ve created the ability to indulge in comforts & experiences for myself through the growth I incurred in pushing my limits each day I express gratitude every day when I wake up; I am taken care of, loved, healthy, & doing what I love to do without extreme worry anymore This gratitude comes with respect for the difficult times I’ve endured I told the person on the flight that every day I subject myself to discomfort Whether it be exercise, business, inner work, going the extra mile in some way, doing the thing I don’t want to do, exploring the emotions I am scared of, putting my heart on the line risking hurt for the potential of deep love & connection, delaying gratification, making efforts to push my thresholds in some way And this, I believe, after years of finding ways to challenge myself or being encouraged to, has supported me in embracing the storms when they have come Not “embracing” them as in loving & wishing others could go through these storms but more so embracing them as a part of Gods plan for me to become the woman I am & am meant to be…to live purposefully, with intention, in support of others, & in my mission We all face tragedy & adversity… Things can happen that you never imagined you’d ever go through You might be stripped of life as you know it, but know that these highs & lows allow you to live a FULL life with ALL the human experiences which wouldn’t be possible if you always run from discomfort or the unknown #BUILDMORETHANJUSTABODY ![]() It’s okay to miss being shredded as long as it doesn’t prevent you from making improvements... A lot of athletes become afraid after a show that they’ve gained fat or have let go “too much” I’ve been there. Sometimes it still comes up in the process! But the thought can be addressed easily once you have a system for doing so which I’ve personally been able to establish for myself The dangerous part is if the thoughts take over & start controling your actions in ways that are not conducive to your goals This could manifest in multiple ways: Maybe.... 🚫An unnecessary mini cut 🚫Not increasing calories fast enough or following through on your coach’s reverse diet 🚫Restricting food intake & falling into all or nothing cycles or doing excess cardio out of fear of fat gain 🚫Being harsh & critical of your body growing despite knowing it’s necessary 🚫Sacrificing health & recovery In Bodybuilding...we spend so much time admiring the stage look which is actually built in the growth season Yet, when we go into our improvement season, it can take some time to accept that this is what it’s all about! We might get hit with the post-show blues, poor food relationship, negative body image, or a disconnect between our goals & our identity as the demands & focus shifts Getting caught up in staying super lean could mean your improvements for your next show may not be what you or the judges expected/needed If the goal is to bring an epic & BETTER package, then you better start eating & training to grow into & set yourself up for that! Because when the reality of staying the same (getting worse IMO) hits, especially in relation to your core values, you’ll see the benefit to the changes SO! If you know you want to grow but fear the fat gain or feel uncomfortable in your own skin & get anxious over it Then I urge you to ask yourself: What happens if you don’t, what happens when you do, & what reminders do you need to get through it in a positive way? Respect all parts of the journey, they’re part of it for a reason💪🏻 |
