![]() The athlete who says “What does it take?” Will outlast the athlete who says “But How Long Will it Take?” The athlete who cares to know more about the process than the timeline will have more sustainable drive and desire The athlete obsessed with the timeline will dwindle in drive and desire when things don’t go to plan or when interruptions come up There are plenty of athletes who claim to love the game but which athletes respect it? The ones willing to play, lose, strategize, and show up until they know they earned the win It really shouldn’t be about when you win If you’re focused on your why, and your why runs deeper than surface level, patience becomes pleasurable, the wait becomes advantageous, and the interruptions along the way become ammo There is no point in rushing a process to get to some desired end result if you’re not becoming the person who can uphold and represent the result in the long run Growth and goal attainment are so much better when savored anyways Extreme or rushed processes leave less room for lessons and more room for disappointment and identity crisis while methodical & calculated processes leave room for extraction of allllll the data, integration of the identity, and a healthy fixation on execution before accolades What do you need to believe about yourself to embrace the journey to the next level? What do you need to let go of that is keeping you stuck? What truth do you need to hear from yourself? What needs to change in your process and outlook to sustain your journey? ![]() Letting go of what I expect my body to be allows me to embrace and thank her for all that she is giving me today When you look at yourself in the mirror it’s easy to see the body you didn’t want to see or expect to see But what if instead you looked in the mirror and said thank you to the body that woke up that day and to God for not just another opportunity to live out this life and your purpose and enjoy the potential of your body but also for crafting you in such an inexplicably beautiful way with consideration for your purpose, present, and future? When we spend time grounding with ourselves & having acceptance we can experience less negative emotional reactions to what we see reflected in the mirror Some days it’s really hard to look past the exterior & reinforce that you are more than your body, especially when you work day after day to improve & meet specific criteria (soon ill be posting about why body image can be so complicated for athletes so stay tuned for that) I find that when we look in the mirror & lock eyes with ourselves and take a moment to truly see & affirm the soul which resides and drives the passion to improve, we can generate a lot more gratitude and compassion Before critiquing every inch of yourself, consider: 1) how have you shown up for yourself consistently? 2) what does your body do for you automatically on her own just to keep you alive despite how you have treated or pushed her? 3) do you want the love for yourself only to be rooted in physical appearance or do you want first to foster a deep appreciation for the person you are now, have been, & are becoming?—a true love that stands the test of time… Let me know how these check in questions support you today or the rest of this week… Want some more support with this? It also makes guilt stronger because it’s sending the message that in order to have those foods you must earn or purge them in some way but other foods you don’t have to do those things for therefore furthering the good vs bad food mentality 2) not talking about it, hiding it, trying to cover it up or get rid of anything related to it—This behavior tells us that we are not to be loved, accepted, cared for, or helped if we are engaged in this behavior which actually further deepens shame points that were likely established at a very young age. It is immediately relieving to talk about struggles with other people so by isolating you’re also withholding potentially healing moments. This action also causes a cycle of anxiety through emotional avoidance. I always say to myself & clients that the more you avoid the greater the void 3) swearing to be “perfect” moving forward—This insinuates that peace and progress cannot be made without perfection which is far from the truth. My event was amazing! The women were so present, open, & supportive of one another Thursday was the VIP portion of the event which is always more intimate with deep conversations, tears, stories, fun times, & breakthroughs The takeaway always seems to be that it’s nice to meet & spend time with others who “get” it This same energy carried over into the Angel Fashion Show weekend where I was able to contribute to over 150 women through multiple breakout sessions where I opened discussions regarding mental health for athletes fostering a great group environment as well as offering my education, tools, & insight. Kristina tells us her idea of setting and achieving goals for her “ideal body”, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. It took Kristina a long time to realize that the larger physical goals became attainable only after setting smaller, more achievable goals that aligned with her values. This is what we refer to as building efficacy which ultimately supports sustainability and longevity; two key aspects to having success through fulfillment in a lifestyle where our body is ever evolving. Something that has contributed to Kristina’s success is how opened-minded she stayed. Even though she’s been though so many ups and downs, she’s stayed committed to herself and the process. And in that, she has been able to show up in more ways for her family. She has been moving away from the perfectionist mentality and all or nothing thinking, into a more sustainable, long-term focused way of showing up for herself every day. Developing habits and routines has been crucial to allowing Kristina to live a more sustainable life and avoid the chronic burnout she struggled with in the past. Kristina has been focusing on restoring her hormone health. Because of her commitment to putting her health first, she has had to reframe her relationship with body image, the scale, and food, and has stayed committed to the goal of long-term health for her future. In order to be armed for the next struggle down the road, you have to embrace the current struggle. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or get the resources you need to thrive.
