![]() You Can Eat Whatever you Want and Still Burn Fat/Achieve your Fitness Goals Yes, its true. You can actually eat whatever you want and still achieve aesthetic results. Don’t worry, this isn't some weird scam or trick, I am going to show you how this works in this post. There are 3 Macronutrients in which our body breaks down for energy; Carbohydrates, Proteins, and Lipids (fats). Each of these Macros has a specific amount of kCals per gram (aka calories) Carbs and Protein: 4cal/gram Fats: 9cal/gram We need a certain amount per day to live in an optimal state and this makes up our total amount of calories in a day. Let’s take a closer look. I am going to simplify this. Not everyone’s body is the same which means someone who is your height and weight could function off of 3,000 calories and maintain a lean physique while you may only be able to maintain your weight on 1,900 calories (yikes). This is why it is important to be aware of the way you increase and decrease your caloric intake (and why cookie cutter diets are no bueno) Your metabolism could be super slow from years of yoyo diets or low caloric diets and loads of restriction. While the other person might have been strategic with their increasing and decreasing of calories which allows them to eat more and maintain their lean physique. Okay, I promised to keep this simple. If you have a caloric intake of 2400 calories then you have 2400 calories to spend on food (like your bank account or a budget) So knowing that you can have carbs, proteins, and fats every day to make up these calories, then by the end of the day your goal is to reach your total of 2400 calories, which means you can essentially get this from anything. In example: You might want peanut butter and jelly for lunch. This means that you have fats and a little bit of protein from your peanut butter, and carbs from the jelly and bread. Which means you now have used up a little bit of your days worth used for calories. Another example: if you have a chocolate bar that has 20g of carbs and 10g of fats that means you have just consumed 190 calories (20x4)+(10x9) because of the kcal/gram. Essentially you could get those grams from anything. If you want protein to come from eggs instead of chicken then do that. Or, If you prefer getting protein from plants or bean sources then that means you will also be using your carbs up so that means you might not be able to have the baked potato you wanted for dinner. I know it is strange but science can be strange. Here's what you need to know. Even though you can have ice cream instead of avocado on toast doesn’t necessarily mean you should. Even though you can have macaroni and cheese instead of apples and peanut butter doesn’t necessarily mean you should. But, let’s put this in perspective again; The way your body functions and performs matters. What you eat will impact how your body serves you. So even though you could eat a good amount of junk and still achieve your goals, doesn’t mean you should. Also, a lot of junk is empty calories which means it isn’t giving much to your body and you will probably be hungry really soon. And, unfortunately you won’t be able to eat as much in the day because these foods are usually much higher in calories. If having a few chips instead of some fruit in the week keeps you from having a binge fest on the weekend as a ‘cheat meal’ then I would argue that the chips are actually the better choice. Because, if you didn’t have it you might have had a huge binge from deprivation at the end of the week and then consumed way more calories than your weekly totals which you set that would have helped you to lose the weight you wanted. So, that binge may have just set you back a week and a half while also feeding your unhealthy relationship with food. Okay, this is starting to sound like crazy talk, obsessing over every meal, every macro, every bite, is NOT a way to live. You CAN do this without obsession. (yep) If you can learn these basics, practice them and then have an increased awareness then you’re going to be able to have even more freedom with food because, not only will you be able to know that the food you are eating is going to help you achieve your goals, but your body is going to start telling you what feels better more often, and then when you make choices you will have a really clear idea for where you are at in the day in terms of your carb, fat, and protein intake and therefore your calories. At the end of the day, life is about more than what you are eating or feeling the need to be tracking everything but it is also important to put energy and time into your health and fitness. You might be wondering where to start with all of this. You might be thinking; -How do I know where my calories should be? -How do I know how many carbs, fats, and proteins I should be eating? -How do I know if I am eating too many calories or too little? -How can I reverse the damage I have done to my metabolism from yo yo diets, restrictive eating patterns, and unhealthy decisions? Don’t worry, it is very possible and requires strategic manipulation.Something you don't have to do alone (because you have enough to focus on in your life) It is worth it though because once you do, you might be looking at a life where you can keep your body in an aesthetic shape you want with a high amount of calories and a healthy relationship with food and no more yoyo diets or crazy restriction (who doesn’t like being able to eat more?) Your body is a machine and will adapt to the demands placed on it but this can be both a bad and a good thing. I could literally go on and on about this stuff forever and there is so much more to it than this so I am going to sum it up right here and open the door for those of you who want to know more and take it a step further.
