![]() Ever wonder how to keep a lean physique while still maintaining and even building muscle mass? Don't want to become muscular without shedding the fat first? Here's the thing, in order to build muscle and burn fat you need to do resistance training. A common misconception is that you have to burn fat first with endless amounts of cardio and intense restrictive dieting before beginning any sort of resistance training. The truth is, you should start lifting weights like, YESTERDAY. Lifting weights will allow you to break down your muscles and literally create teeny tiny tears in them that then are healed by the body through adaptation and made stronger and larger (yep, THAT'S how it works) Our bodies are really cool. They adapt to the demands placed on them. It's a scientific law actually. (Look up Wolff and Davis law if you're not convinced by me😉) Anyways, when we want to burn fat we need to burn more calories than we consume (also science). So what does this mean? 1. You don't have to be as restrictive as you think with you're eating, you just have to be more strategic, especially when you're also trying to build lean muscle mass. 2. You should lift weights in any rep range above 8reps but really no more than 25 (that's just muscular endurance at that point). 3. You can limit your cardio when you combine it with proper weight training or do it in a way which insights even more resistance on the body. (Like HIIT circuits w weights). You don't actually have to do a ton of cardio at all and smart manipulation and progression is everything. Unfortunately (and very fortunately), our bodies are all different. So what works for that buff super lean and shapely girl/guy at the gym may or may not work for you. You have to understand your body and work with and for it, NOT against it. Gaining lean muscle is about strategic choices through training and nutrition. Not to mention, if your mind isn't right then your body won't be. If you want to build lean muscle start visualizing it happening and believing that it's possible for you and then putting in the work.
