The ups and downs of life can be, will be, and are somewhat scary but they are also reaallllyyyy exciting too.
We step up to the platform of a rollercoaster ride and wait in line gettin worked up, scared shitless, or excited in some way about the ride.
Some people turn around and don’t get on because their fear takes over and they’re not ready to face it yet.
Others jump right on with every intention to love each up and down.
And most just know there’s going to be some unknowns and some exciting highs and stomach flipping drops but they go anyways.
That’s the thing though isn’t it?
We go anyways. And even if it’s not that day or that moment or that time, we always end up going eventually.
Because the ups and downs are inevitable, just like in life and when we want something, it’s necessary to go after it even with the knowledge that it might be scary but also very thrilling.
We are built to love the thrill and the feeling of getting through something.
We know we are capable of overcoming adversity or hardship and when we do our brains reward center fires off the same way we feel after we get off the ride wishing we wouldn’t have to wait in line To go again!
Sometimes we even do something or go on a ride and decide “ya, I don’t need to do that ever again” and that’s okay too!
Because with all things in life there Is a lesson and a reason and a whole lot of fun.
And other times we don’t feel thrilled or challenged enough and we know it’s time to grow, expand, and test our boundaries and comfort zones again, so we find a new ride, a new path with its own ups and downs to face.
The part that hit me as I was running on the treadmill thinking about this was that after it all, somehow we want to go again and again and again.
No matter what anxiety, or fear or negative emotions the downs brought us or the fear of the unknown with each climb, we want to go again so we can experience the thrills, the views, the excitement, the laughs, the fun!
The key is to look at everything, not as a struggle or a curse, but rather a fun ride to experience and go through and enjoy and learn from.
Every opportunity life throws at us is capable of being received as fun and playful even when it brings hardship or sadness or energies to overcome.
You may not be smiling and loving EVERY moment of the ride. You may not want to go on that particular ride of your life ever again. And you might not even step up to the platform when given the opportunity to ride it out.
But when you do, and while you are riding it out, always remember that it is meant to feel fulfilling and empowering and be a part of your growth journey, not meant to tear you down.
Lots of love,
