![]() Be so committed to getting better at the things that challenge you most that the process to improvement becomes more of a joy than a chore. Shifting your perspective from “this is hard and I’m no good!” Or “I don’t like doing this and I’ll never get as good as others” or “I feel like a failure every time I try” TO: “I can’t wait to get better!” Or “even though this is hard for me now, the more I practice and study, the better I’ll get!” Our thoughts and beliefs about what we do will Influence our experiences. Couple of Points on Self-Talk: - You don’t need to lie to yourself and say “wow I’m so amazing!!!” And then keep doing the same old things. Self criticism is also a form of self talk & can be used to increase motivation (sparingly!!). Based on what I’ve seen in various literature on self-talk, I’d recommend a mixed approach, something like “I keep getting the foot placement wrong but I have made improvements in the past that I messed up on a lot before. I need to study this & try again”. If you’re motivated by a challenge you might actually benefit from a bit of tough love but too much is not healthy!! - Self-talk is self-regulation. It changes how you will behave because it’s a form of planning. Before posing or lifting or stepping on stage, remind yourself of the key principles that will help you perform well, You might say, ‘Glutes High Chest Up BIG smile Poise’ this will reinforce the process and can act as an anchor for strong performance. - When learning something new, false confidence can be produced through self talk that is self-respectful. When you talk with self-respect your confidence can go up but it can also cause dissociation from actual results based reality. But this type of talk can help you to learn if it is accurate & reinforces your efforts & skillset to continue improving. - Self-talk also exists in your social circle. If your coaches are not positive or neutral in their efforts to help you improve, you might want to consider how this is influencing your identity & skill development. Have you ever struggled with self-talk? Has this post helped you understand how you can use it more to your benefit? LMK!🥰 #BUILDMORETHANJUSTABODY
