Control is not the answer, it’s also not the problem!
Most people think they need “more control” but what they really want is congruency You want to feel like the way you are eating and behaving is aligned with your goals and supporting you in your life, right? So while we think, “in order to be more on point with my diet or macros or meal plan I need to restrict xyz, never have abc, and throw away any and all foods that could threaten that control” THIS IS THE LAST THING WE SHOULD BE DOING OR NEED TO DO We have just been taught to have surface level solutions to deeper problems or incongruences To that point, restriction doesn’t equal more control (although it may seem like a good “solution” at first) It usually leads to an eventual loss of control because the act of restriction is also not aligned with the goals of your ideal self See, the problem isn’t you, or food, or your will power and ability to “stay strong” It’s about identity and what you are excited about committing to and capable of committing to without feeling like you need restraint or to hide everything from your view To expect yourself to go from eating everything in sight to being able to hold yourself back and be “perfect” is unrealistic The real shift doesn’t happen in the choices themselves it happens in what is driving the choices So in order to gain the control you seek you must first find alignment and congruency between your choices, identity, desires, and goals Making commitments that work for you based on your current goals, circumstances, and desired state of mind is easier when you let go of the expectations that aren’t actually yours Struggling with your relationship with food?
