![]() Having an unhealthy relationship with food is exhausting, distracting, & detrimental to our goals, ESPECIALLY long-term! Most of the time, we‘re told by others (or ourselves) to “just” get it together You wouldn’t tell someone to “just be happier” or “just get over it!” So why treat mental health struggles that relate to physical health & aesthetics differently? We‘ve been conditioned to believe that the reason people fail themselves is not due to emotional voids, negative experiences of the past, body loathing, dieter mentality, judgement, incongruency, cognitive distortions, or other precursors to food related issues But because they “have no discipline, willpower, self control, etc” If it were all about that, then competitors & fitness enthusiasts would never struggle, yet they often struggle the most (& behind closed doors!!) Then the silent killing of these issues continues, yet most people with them either don’t know they have them, don’t speak up, have been given other forms of disordered eating to “fix” it, or believe they‘re a lost cause which can lead to comorbidity with other serious mental illness like depression & anxiety While strengthening discipline is possible & proven to be helpful, it’s not the end all be all Otherwise all that stuff would‘ve worked by now Our behaviors are not driven by single variables Not just beliefs, thoughts, stories, habits, reinforcements, experiences, environment, goals, values, identity...rather a combination of it all The problem is people try to address what‘s happening beneath the surface with surface level solutions (New diet, more restriction, punishment, distraction...) Then it doesn’t work, or maybe it works for a little while, then suddenly you’re back at square one wondering “what! why can’t I get over this?!” If the underlying issue is never resolved the cycle will remain a cycle & usually become more viscous Getting ahead of it needs to be a top priority to achieve & sustain results & most of all for your mental health, & life experience Click HERE to learn more about & apply for my Food Relationship Healing & Discovery Coaching program where I work 1:1 with you using my signature PTG process so you can finally make peace with food, your body, & your goals!
