![]() EATING WHATEVER YOU WANT Why has this become such a ‘no-no’? Why does ‘whatever you want’ = bad thing for you? Why is it that we make other people feel bad for ‘eating whatever’ they want? I believe that as humans, are most incredible resource available to us at all times is our body. Our body is built to sustain and protect us at all costs, no matter how poorly we treat it. I like to think this is because our body has knowledge that there’s something really meaningful about being alive and sharing our life with others. But, before I get ahead of myself, I want to address why this negative connotation around ‘eating whatever you want’ should be erased from your mind. (I would say the world but we gotta start somewhere!) What if eating whatever you want was actually about eating the protein and veggies? What if eating whatever you want was actually about enjoying an apple instead of a pear? What if eating whatever you want was not forcing yourself to eat all the food on your plate? What if eating whatever you want wasn’t binge watching your fav Netflix series while binge eating all the sweets? What if eating whatever you want was actually about Eating. Whatever. Your Body. Wants? What if eating whatever you want meant that you actually tuned in, listened to your body, honored her, and trusted that the signals and feedback she is giving you are meaningful? It fascinates me that we have given into this strange subconscious and limiting belief that we are incapable of truly having what we want because we don’t know what we need. At the end of the day, this negative connotation about eating what you want came from somewhere, and I think it was when everyone began obsessing over how much, what type, and when they consume food and how it impacts the shape, size, or health of your body (let’s be honest, this was always mostly about shape and size). Here’s the deal. Our body needs to be kept healthy and treated with the same love and diligence that she cares for us with. But how do we do that? How do we truly find the way to listen, honor, and love our body? To trust ourselves to let go of the need to control everything and instead really have what we need? Self-Love. Self-Awareness. Self-Efficacy.
So, identify where you need to become more present in your body to listen more. Feel into where you have been denying yourself of your true needs. Become aware and forgive yourself for where you are if it is not where you want to be and learn from the current situation you are in. Take that lesson with you, take the knowledge and feedback from your body, and take your deepest desires to spark a new found trust and belief in yourself that you are not only capable but you are also worthy and deserving of eating whatever you want. Because eating whatever you want means becoming more aware of your needs, more present with your body, and more at peace with your goals. I recently took my girls in the post-show personal development program through a powerful exercise on burning the food rules. I can’t wait to see them set fire to the beliefs that we have been conditioned to have in order to be more x, y, or z. Our body wants us to function at an optimal level, let go, tune in, and act from the space of: ‘What does my body really want (and need) right now? What does the craving I am getting actually represent in my life? How can I honor this information to move forward?’ If you are struggling with your relationship to food or struggling to connect with your body, then I invite you to check out my 4 week food freedom academy If you are a bikini competitor who has been or is struggling with the post-show blues and the tricky balance of food and achieving goals in the off-season then I would love to welcome you to learn more about and join my 8 week post-show personal development program This is not a diet, this is not an exercise plan, this is the only program out there that is helping competitors to overcome the post show blues.
