In this episode, host Celeste Rains-Turk, chats with Marisa Woo, a full time student at SDSU studying Kinesiology with an emphasis in fitness specialist! She is currently a bikini posing coach and an online coach for lifestyle clients and competitors.

Tune in to hear about how Marisa has come out of prepping for so long to get her procard to now finding the lifestyle that works for her. She talks to us about how some of her priorities like family were neglected in prep and what she is doing now to make the most of it. She shares why she decided to wait until 2020 to compete, what she is doing to create more symmetry in her physique, and how time and consistency has helped with her mindset.

Marisa opens up about how she has become more present in life by looking up from social media, what it was like to be isolated by people in her life when she got into bodybuilding, and how she has been able to successful find and know who she is without a show date in mind.

We get into the wellness division and how it is a great opportunity for women who are in the inbetween shape or don't want to kill themselves over morphing their physique into something it isn't. Getting into topics like how bringing different physiques to the stage has impacted her as a competitor, hiding flaws on stage, and how comparing yourself to your old packages isn't always the best idea.

She even talks about how staying lean for so long impacted her hormones and health and why she believes there is a lifestyle that can be sustained and loved that fits your own unique desires.

In this episode, host, Celeste Rains-Turk sits down with 22 year old business owner of Pro Body Sports Therapy in Denver who started her journey at 170 pounds and 37% body fat, decided to make some changes and did her first competition in 2017 and turned pro one year later. She is also a wife, puppy mom, online coach and fitness model, Jimi Marley.

Tune in to hear about how Jimi went from a binge and purge lifestyle for weightloss to heavy lifting, food loving, IFBB pro. After being bullied in high school her motivation to lose weight was extrinsic but in this interview we hear what she does daily to center her mindset into more intrinsic motivations.

Jimi opens up about how she had to pull out of a show she was committed to doing and why it was more important for her to do that than push through the physical and mental challenge that was presented.

Jimi also talks about how shifting her perspective on food has helped her to overcome the binging post show. As she enters into a long off season for the first time Jimi reflects on what helped her to grow and succeed so much as an amateur all the way through to the pro stage. We even dabble with the thought of her competing in the upcoming wellness division.

We talk about what it is like to own a business at a young age and how she got where she is now. Jimi and I discuss why taking time away from work is the best way to generate new ideas and how she has been able to find her own balance.

Jimi tells us her story of fighting for her life at only 10 years old and what she went through being told she was going to die, having to tell her parents goodbye, and fighting more battles than she ever thought she was in for.

She tells us the importance of self-belief, not selling ourselves short, and the importance of continuously showing up regardless of the outcomes.

Coach's Week: What to Expect and all the Questions Each Coach has been Asked

6/9/2019

Picture
I want to preface this week by saying every coach I am bringing on is a professional with their own achievements, education, and experience. Many of them you will recognize as well-known names.

If I could fit every amazing coach in the bikini competition world on the show, we would have a whole other podcast, but I am so excited about the coach’s I will be conducting these interviews with.

None of the coaches have paid to come on and there will be as limited bias as possible.

Every episode will contain the same set of questions for the coach’s until the end or little moments throughout the episode where we might expand on 1-3 extra topics I have prepared just for the specific coach. this is all about getting some serious understanding about who these coaches are, what their philosophy is and even asking them questions others might be afraid to ask them.

The intention is for you all to learn not just about them and their style but also learn from them and their expertise.

This is not a popularity contest, a who is better than who, or a which is the right way fight, this is about truly highlighting the individual strengths and systems each of these coaches have to offer competitors in their own passionate way because we all know everyone is different and so are these coaches.

Coach's Week Questions:
  1. What is your coaching philosophy?
  2. What kind of mental physical and even emotional toll does coaching take on you?  How do you handle these types of demands?
  3. What do you think makes a coach a ‘good’ coach?
  4. What do you think is the difference between a good athlete and a phenomenal, winning champion athlete
  5. What do you have to say to the people who say politics with teams plays a role in their client’s placing? Or that all of this is political?
  6. How do you make your client’s health a priority?
  7. What are some common misconceptions that people have when they come to you?

Hypothetical Round:
  1. If I am 1 years into competing with a few overall wins under my belt and my goal is to get my pro card and I have never stepped on the national stage and have been working with the same coach for 1 years but was looking for a new approach why would I hire you?
  2. If I am 4 weeks out from a show and keep saying I don’t feel ready, but you believe I am, what is your response?
  3. Lets say someone comes to you wanting to compete or considering it, what is something you want them to know before they compete?
  4. Your client comes to you and says they have rebounded after their show and just wants to reverse it and get back to normal, what do you do?

Rapid fire answer with 1 sentence or less then you can pick some to expand on
  1. Waist trainers
  2. IIfym or clean eating
  3. Fasted cardio?
  4. Water Cut
  5. Steady state or HIIT for fatloss without sacrificing fullness especially in glutes?
Anything I didn’t ask you that you think I should have?

Then 1-3 topics chosen for each individual coach will be covered too throughout the episode!

Hope You Enjoy! :)
