Picture
In this Mother’s Day Series Finale Episode Host Celeste Rains-Turk talks with Jodi Riley, the 2017 bikini Olympia Amateur Champion (and pro card winner) with 7 Bikini championships. She is the Co-Owner of BBL Fitness, and Posing Coach. Jodi is currently pregnant with her first child & comes on to discuss her experiences as a child with a champion bodybuilder for a mom and her perspectives gained from pregnancy as well as for the future.

The episode begins with Jodi discussing her pre-stage rituals and how she prepares her teams competitive athletes to bring out the sass on stage. Jodi talks about the importance of getting comfortable prior to stepping food on stage and visualizing the whole experience long before actually competing.

The connection between the athletes and coach’s is very important to Jodi and the Body By Loleta team, as they want to keep a very hands on approach through each athletes prep. As Jodi talks about the team, she explains her experience with having her mother as a competitive bodybuilding athlete and how the team got started. Jodi talks about her lack of interest in the lifestyle throughout her youth even though she was involved with assisting her mother backstage at shows since a young age.

As the episode continues, Jodi reflects on being overweight and her mother encouraging her as a teenager to change her lifestyle. Once Jodi realized her health was deteriorating, she approached her mother for help. Jodi talks about the results she began to notice after doing the bare minimum with balancing her nutrition and exercise. Jodi explains as she began to see results, she wanted to see what she could ultimately achieve. From beginning of her competition career, Jodi elaborates on her preparations with her mother. Jodi talks about how much she values the incredible bond that was created with her mother through their similar interest and focus.

Throughout the episode, Jodi talks about her discipline and determination which holds true during her story of her prep for the Olympia Amateur. She was weeks out when hurricane Urma hit Florida. She laughs reflecting back on the scenarios she had to endure yet kept faith that she was meant to compete. Her resiliency ultimately leads to her earning her pro card at the first Olympia Amateur show.

Jodi talks about when an athlete is ready for prep or not and the importance of commitment to the sport. An athlete has to decide that they are ready, and nothing should deter them from sticking to the plan 100%. Jodi is extremely driven and a competitive athlete, yet she does make time for her other hobbies which include traveling. Jodi elaborates on the importance of being disciplined to the sport during competition season, but the importance of enjoying things outside of bodybuilding when the time is right. Jodi states that you can’t let competing stop you from living out your dreams, dreams of being a mother and your goals outside of bodybuilding. The stage will be there.

Once Jodi found out she was pregnant, she was unsure about her changing body. During this portion of the episode, Jodi talks about having a positive mindset and learning to enjoy motherhood. Jodi has realized the importance of patience and taking time to find your purpose and passions. Dedication and support are a continuous theme as Jodi talks about her success and future endeavors. Jodi states because of her support, she will be okay with balancing motherhood, being a business owner and trainer.

The episode concludes with Jodi’s advice to new and/or beginning competitors stating the importance of your why. Jodi reiterates that competing shouldn’t be done for a win or gain, but because an athlete wants to do it for themselves and the right reasons.

Picture
In this episode host Celeste Rains- Turk connects with IFBB Bikini pro India Paulino for a special Mother’s Day series episode. India is a holder of 15 professional championships with 3 Arnold Wins as Ms Bikini International and multiple Olympia appearances. She is the podcast host for RAW and travels as a speaker while running her online training business. India focuses her work on personal development coaching and conscious parenting.

India talks about her personal development rituals and the importance of doing self-exploratory work. Her personal development was inspired by going through her own experiences and dark places. She explains the importance of getting to know yourself your perspective changes and begin to be insightful about our self.

She reflects on the importance of gratitude and accepting your worth. She states that through personal development we are not losing ourselves but shedding the parts we had originally built to protect our self in the past. Her work focuses on the importance of recognizing reactions to situations and knowing when to reach out for help.

The theme of self-exploration and personal development continues as India reflects on being a mother and how she experiences motherhood. India explains the importance of taking care of yourself mentally, physical, spiritually and emotionally.

She states, “Motherhood brings up a lot of our old stuff.” She mentions how she dealt with emotions during her pregnancy even when her birth plans did not go as she had originally planned. India talks about her unplanned birth story and how she coped with the last-minute changes to her initially well thought out plan for birth. Indian emphasizes the importance on taking time to process and reflect, mentally and physically.

As a parent, India explains her natural approach to parenting. India states that her and Whitney were ready to have a child, so it was time to step away from the stage to focus on family. She had no issues getting pregnant after years of competing at such a prestigious level.

In an inspiring journey from competitor to new mother, India discussed her approach about postpartum and not putting stress on herself to lose the weight. India stresses the importance of talking to your doctors.

To be careful because the body is in a different state. To not feel pressured to look a certain way and more to focus on honoring yourself while creating healthy boundaries through your process. India restates the importance of focusing on mental health first and not to hurt yourself to obtain a body type if your mental health isn’t there.

India shares her insights on parents and the connection between your child and yourself, while also respecting your child’s unique self. Her conscious parenting style focuses on self reflection and identifying triggers to remove our Ego while responding to the child’s needs.

Respect is something she mentions frequently and understanding that your child should be encouraged to live their life in a way free from preconceived expectations of the parents. India reiterates her emphasis on raising her son in a natural way.

She explains the differences in plant-based diets and veganism. She was met with minimal resistance and skeptics when she expressed raising her child vegan. The importance is about eating from a variety of sources and education about proper nutrients.

While being a businesswoman, athlete, and mother India explains how she balances her schedule by prioritizing tasks and executing them. India states that the important aspect is scheduling time for yourself and self-care. She explains about the importance of asking for help and not feeling like everything has to be done at once.

She concludes the episode by reflecting on her 3 time Ms. Bikini International title and the unreal experience of being able to accomplish so much through her career. She alludes to a special upcoming announcement in the next few months, yet India doesn’t have a definitive plan in place currently for competing.

India expresses her opinions on sponsorships and how having a title, winnings or certain athletic standings doesn’t guarantee income or fame. India expresses her happiness regarding her achievements and that all the hard work was worth it, but that the title wasn’t magically life changing for her.

Ultimately in the industry, it is important how you represent yourself. India explains her views on being a good role model and establishing a unique brand for yourself not to rely on your looks or athletic shape to make you successful in the industry. If you want to make a career through the industry then you need to begin well before you achieve a title. She reiterates that an athlete should wait for a winning or title to begin something they are passionate about.

The episode concludes with India’s feelings about the look of bikini. She believes the look of bikini has changed and became very different compared to when it first started. She expands on the timeline of bikini and how the sport has evolved over the years including new competitors entering the sport as the physique evolves.

India reflects on her years of competing and her experiences as the sport has changed into what it is today. In this inspiring, motivating and heart felt episode, India reflects on her journey to help encourage, motivate and assist woman through their own personal development journey and path to self-love and acceptance.

MOTHER'S DAY SERIES: CHANTEL HALL; Talking to Kids About Nutrition, Intuitive Eating in Improvement Season, Utilizing Refeeds, Importance of Consistency, Living a Lifestyle you Love

5/11/2020

Picture
In this episode host Celeste Rains-Turk sits down with Chantel Hall, a mother of a five-year-old and a three-year-old who has been competing since 2012 and went pro at USAs in 2019. She is an online coach for lifestyle and competition clients and she recently relocated to Arizona during her prep for USA’s.

Since her competition debut in 2012, Chantel discusses coaching herself for several years until she decided to bring on a coach after she earned second place and was disappointed. With her coach’s guidance, Chantel shares how she learned to properly peak, ate a lot more and was pushed to lift more and more weight. She quickly learned that succeeding as a bikini competitor wasn’t just about being lean, it was about having the muscle to show when she leaned out.

As the episode progresses, Chantel opens up about the importance of refeeds for both herself and her competitors. She explains how, in her experience, she finds refeeds tend to be “more crucial the leaner you get,” and goes even further to explain when she chooses to utilize refeeds with her own clients based on their hunger levels as well as biological and mental cues.

Chantel then talks about the importance of eating intuitively. She shares how her diet of primarily whole foods has benefited her during her season and how it continues to benefit her in her offseason when she lets go of the macros and feeds her body what it needs. Chantel explains how she chooses food based upon not only her love for the food but because of what the food does for her in terms of the taste and health benefits.

Being a mother, Chantel shares how she talks with her children about the food they eat. Although her children are young, she explains food choices in ways they can understand such as eating protein to make them strong. She feels strongly that if you want to manage work, children, being a wife and her own needs, a mother will learn how to prioritize her time to make everything fit, even if it includes bringing her children to the gym daycare.

After pregnancy, Chantel talks about the changes she experienced in her physique, including ab separation and an umbilical hernia. She stresses the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle which includes lifting weights during pregnancy and how she believes it caused her to “snap back” quicker from her pregnancy. She shares how she didn’t experience stretch marks in her pregnancies and attests this to continuing to exercise, eating whole foods and keeping her protein levels up.

As the episode draws to a close, Chantel shares her best pieces of advice, with a spin on the usual questions. First, she shares advice to future moms who are currently competing but want to start a family of their own and then she talks towards the new moms who want to compete or get back to competing. In this insightful momma episode, Chantel shares the importance of routine, structure and building muscle all while holding the best job in the world: being a mom.

From there, Celeste and Shayla dive into a vulnerable dialogue of each individual’s experiences with the loss of a period or continuous bleeds and the steps they took to get it back, the emotions involved and the mental work they had to do to stay positive and assure themselves they were making the best decisions for their health.

Shayla discusses how she uses the strategy of goal setting and affirmations to help keep her calm and focused on what she can control to have the best possible outcome during uncertain situations.

Celeste then asks Shayla about her feelings of being pregnant while dealing with the coronavirus situation. Shayla concludes the episode by sharing with listeners her best advice for newbie competitors and girls on their road to pro.
