I got pregnant the day after a bodybuilding competition, competed the next weekend on Mother’s Day as a goodbye to my decade long competing journey not knowing I was already a mom but instead thinking I was honoring my late mother and my new role as a step mom.

But I imagine God was laughing at my husband and I thinking I’ve already answered a prayer you’re praying.

We wanted to start a family after I was done competing but didn’t realize it would literally be one season into the next. However, I couldn’t be more grateful it went this way.

It feels like the last show I did was forever ago yet it feels like the positive pregnancy test was yesterday. Now here I am holding my sweet boy everywhere I go.

There has never been anything more fulfilling than becoming a mom.

In many ways I believe competing prepared me for motherhood in beautiful ways.

From the discipline to continue taking care of my body, to respecting when I needed to rest, prioritizing proper nourishment with balanced macro and micros, and following through on what I needed to do to prepare.

Then being strong for birth and going through the ups and downs of post partum especially with breast feeding.

Saying to myself it’s hard but it’s important to me, it’s a challenge but it’s worth committing to, and knowing the pay off will be worth the pains.

I learned to accept moving timelines, change of plans, and being willing to ask for help and do the inner work too.

If you’re in a season of bodybuilding, consider that it’s not just for the stage but so much of your life beyond the stage both now and in the future will be impacted by this.
