When you don't win

September 25, 20252 min read

Overcome and Prevent the “What was the Point of all This if I Didn’t even Win anyways?” Mentality🔑↙️

It’s not uncommon that after putting in months and months, sometimes even years, of work that when you’re met with an unfavorable outcome you might question “why did I even bother?” Or “what’s the use in continuing this level of sacrifice?”

I have clients sometimes tell me they feel frustrated or at times even guilty that they gave up so much so they could step on stage only to feel like a let down to themselves and their family when they don’t win despite all they sacrificed

It can be a tough pill to swallow, truly

So let’s get into it

For one, you should make sure the process you commit to is one you appreciate and enjoy. You don’t have to always like it or be happy but you should be able and willing to commit to it long term without it feeling like a huge blow to your body and life

For two, identify other benefits to what you’re doing outside of outcomes. For example, I recognize the value of starving fleshly desires like gluttony or cravings or even ease and comfort and I saw that bodybuilding was a means to do this in an otherwise very blessed and privileged life

Third of all, can you recognize the wins outside of the judgment call at the end of it all? Can you celebrate ticking another box every day or nailing your posing which makes you feel more confident in other endeavors?

Lastly, if your will to win is strong then your will to work needs to be stronger. The work will be the most grueling part of it and therefore the most satisfying. A win without effort is really not indicative of any feats overcome or new achievement. It’d be like getting a trophy for tying your shoe tomorrow even though you’ve done it every day since you learned how. Not special. Love the work

Bonus point; if winning has become an idol in your life that it ends up reducing all the values and benefits of the pursuit & your love of the pursuit or even your other life demands that you are committed to nurturing. Then it’s time to do a serious mental & spiritual overall
