If you were texting with the thoughts in your head that encourage disordered eating, would it look like this?
I can't tell you how often this is the conversation clients explain to me they have in their mind
I know, I was a person who constantly had these battles of bargaining followed by guilt
What is most frustrating is that it feels like it's not you but it also feels like you should be able to have a cookie and move on without guilt and shame so you are met with this constant feeling that you are weak or not good enough
When I work with clients, my goal is not to get them to what I BELIEVE is the best relationship with food but instead what they would like to see change so that their overall life is improved without the weight of disordered eating and body image concerns impeding on their life satisfaction
When you consider a person struggling with being able to stop at 1 bite or serving of something or someone overwhelmed with constant guilt and this feeling that they have to 'make up for' everything you are really facing some serious concerns with compensatory behaviors which act as reinforcement for the very behavior they wish to change and you are looking at built up beliefs correlated to identities and standards they have based on their goals or endeavors
With competitors or people on a fitness journey, this is especially common
What is even crazier is when people tell me they go through this and they think it is probably 'too much' and they are a 'lost cause' and I tell them literally the majority of people I work with have dealt with this, they almost can't believe they aren't alone in it...
I have helped thousands of people internationally to make peace with food without sacrificing their physique goals
