Have you considered that it’s not the food or the scale or the conversation you’re afraid of but the feelings that facing those things could bring up?
You’re not actually afraid of cookies, you are afraid of the heaviness of guilt consuming your mind because you believe you can’t stop at one or be successful while having some flexibility
It’s not the boundary you’re afraid to set, its the feeling of shame that could come with saying no, rooted in pain from your childhood that you are only loved when you’re serving the needs of everyone else
You’re not afraid to see a # on the scale, but the feeling of embarrassment or insecurity you’ve attached to a range of weight #s based on what others have said or promoted
It’s not being single that scares you, it’s the fear of facing a feeling of loneliness, bitterness, or less than desired that you learned to associate with not having a partner
You’re not afraid to take the test, you’re afraid of the feeling of failure if you get below a C
There’s no fear in the question you want to ask but the thought of the potential answers are scary
We worry and attribute so much of our fear to the tangible realms and dismiss the underlying truth that much of what we fear is rooted in beliefs, stories, neural pathways, and experiences of our past or others we know
It’s easier to say what you fear on the surface than it is to really dig deeper and acknowledge a problem that will take a bit more effort to resolve or heal
The work is absolutely worth it because the liberation you feel when you let go of these fears is indescribable and will open up a whole new view of the world
Next time you think you’re afraid of someTHING ask yourself what feelings or experiences you associate with that thing that you might actually be avoiding or worried about
