Have you ever resented your body in improvement season/post show?
You think to yourself, “I was better before prep than I am now, I was eating more, doing less cardio, feeling more confident in my food choices… why is this happening??? Why am I gaining weight when I look at food or not disciplined now! All these people I competed with seem to be eating way more than me & not having to do all this cardio still!…”
This battle often leads to a cycle of sabotage & shame…
You’re supposed to be the “fit one” but now you can’t even control any meal after breakfast & you don’t think you look like a competitor because your actions have led to a distorted self-image
BUT you don’t have to suffer 😔
We can see red flags in this sport & proactively address them. Things like:
🚩 thinking you can only be seen eating or looking a certain way
🚩comparing to others food & cardio despite knowing everyone’s journey is different
🚩trying to get back on prep or restrict so you can be more “in control” again
🚩criticizing your body & falling into self-sabotage because the all or nothing thinking has led you to believe you’re too far gone anyways
🚩making eating choices based on not wanting to get fat or look a certain way (this may be a surprising red flag but you have to remember if food choices are solely connected to how you look or what the scale says then you are missing the majority of what matters when it comes to eating)
🚩you don’t trust yourself with food anymore so you get rid of it all
🚩you constantly compare to your past self and feel a sense of sadness for not being able to uphold that version of you or surpass it
Your body, in this sport especially, is going to evolve with you over the years. Finding peace from those red flags requires mental shifts
