Some people look at bodybuilding and place their macros or meal plan and their workouts at the top of their priority list
And there’s no arguing that those two things are necessary to make any changes
But what is the point of making changes you cannot sustain, feel good about, honor, or continue to make?
I truly believe that in order to have successful and fulfilling improvement seasons and preps, we have to prioritize our mindset
Yesterday I was thinking about how freeing it is to know I could continue this lifestyle for years and years to come
Not through sheer grit, determination, or perseverance
But because I’ve found a way to make it work for me & my needs
I released judgement around my own approaches and I have had so many trials and error
It’s crazy to me too because so many competitors go from killing their prep to then rebounding, dealing with hidden food issues that surface, and absolutely hating their body
I’ve been there myself!!
But what saved me and has ultimately led to the success I’m experiencing now, is mindset
I healed my relationship with food and I consciously keep it at top of my awareness every day
I learned to truly love and appreciate my body
I worked through conditioning, self sabotage, and limiting beliefs that were all wreaking havoc on my mind
I had to make myself a priority while detaching from the way it impacted my physical body
I had to test my relationship with foods I feared, would binge on, would associate with being triggers, and would judge myself (and others) for eating
I had to face my body every day and fight for my peace of mind by consciously choosing to rewire my thoughts and emotions around my body
I spent hours and hours on end doing mindset work, working with mentors, therapists, healers, studying psychology, and investing in my personal growth and continue to spend time doing this
I had to commit to applying what I knew I needed AND what others guided me to
I couldn’t just let myself accept “oh it’s normal to rebound post show” or “its normal to freak out over the scale” or “its normal to not really like your body in the improvement season or the deepest parts of prep” or “its normal to stress over every single thing you eat and feel bad about some of it and then punish yourself” or whatever else we have labeled normal which really should be considered detrimental and a HUGE hinderance to success as an athlete
With my competitive mindset I knew that to give more and rise above then I had to become more
I don’t half ass any of my diets. I’ve never even cheated on my prep plan. I’ve never missed a workout unless I was told by my coach to do so because I finally admitted to feeling ill, I’ve never put things on the back burner that matter
I also have been able to shift my perspective, expectations and needs for improvement seasons or reverse diets based in self-love and personal needs
I am now sustaining and continuing to progress because I developed the patience and worked on my mind
I have no doubt that I’m heading in the right direction because of my mindset
If you’re struggling with your relationship with food, that won’t just go away. It is arguably more important than any plan you’re given especially when it impacts your adherence, commitment, and enjoyment
If you’re struggling with your relationship with your body, that won’t help you bring your best. It’s arguably more important than any workout plan especially considering when you love yourself and your body you can push yourself more because you value yourself enough to take it to the next level, recover,& celebrate any wins!
If you’re struggling with limiting beliefs, negative habits, and a constant running narrative that brings you down, then accountability, a “you got this ” or “just get back on plan” isn’t going to make a real difference in your struggles
These things are fleeting. Your mindset is the number one variable for long term success, especially in a sport like this
This is why I developed my expertise and services to support competitors in the common struggles they face
