The Fitness Industry Promotes Binging & Purging. ??‍♀️?

The fitness industry is full of people binging and purging and it’s being perpetuated as ‘normal’. 🙅🏻‍♀️😿

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Everyday I read a post about a Instagram fit model, a fitness coach, a competitor “earning” their food, “burning off” their food, or “making up for” their food.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Why can’t we just eat the damn food?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Food is fuel. Some food is better fuel for the body than others. Either way, the body is going to find a way to break it down and get energy from it.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You don’t have to earn the cookie, just like you don’t have to earn your rice cake.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You don’t have to do extra cardio, just because you ate an extra piece of chicken. When you do extra for food like this in a way where you mentally would be upset if you didn’t, you are doing a form of purging.

You don’t have to do any of that. It’s all made up, taught, conditioned. There’s a reason why you think some things are ‘okay’ and others are ‘bad’

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You aren’t going to drop dead, get out of shape, or ruin your chances of achieving your goals by having extra sometimes.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When you begin to associate negativity with food, you anchor in this belief that you are bad or good based on those eating habits.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The industry has glamorized this idea of doing extra cardio to burn food off, going extra hard to earn that donut, or staying super strict all week so you have room for the weekend.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This, unfortunately, is a form of binging and purging. While intention, energy, and reasoning is going to determine how we feel about every choice we make, we still can’t deny that this is an unhealthy behavior.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I found myself cheering in the off season if I don’t have anything off my plan that day, which tells me I am ‘better’ or ‘more worthy of praise’ if I do that. When in reality, I really would benefit from just seeing every day as unique as the next or the one before. The only thing I really benefit most from is answering the question: DOES THIS SERVE ME, MY BODY, and MY GOALS?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sometimes the answer is tricky because of blurred lines. But most of the times I either am guided to the choice that’s going to be the most loving or I am pointed in the direction of where I might be experiencing other voids that I am trying to fill or control in my life with the manipulation of food and movement.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If a food makes me feel bad and I know it does yet I choose to eat it anyways I recognize where I am neglecting my body. Sometimes it’s not about the food or fuel and it’s about the fact that yo girl wants some damn chocolate or some extra protein or 7 servings of veggies instead of 5.

BUT THIS DOESN’T MEAN I KILL MYSELF OVER IT

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You ate. You’re alive. You have fuel. You don’t have to feel ashamed of that. Either reevaluate your goals, how you see yourself, and the relationship you have with yourself and food, or change your actions.

My best lifestyle shift always happens and flows with great ease when I am rooted in the belief that; I know what’s best for my body and my body knows what’s best for me. Because I love my body, I consciously tune in to her every day to give her what she needs to be the best vehicle for my soul to make an impact in this world. I choose to nourish myself with thoughts and actions that move me forward. I love my soul so much that I naturally feel inspired to take care of the one physical body I have been given to enjoy this human experience.

I am able to pull myself out of body image, unhealthy food relationship, and loatheful dialogue pretty smoothly once I commit to it. Sometimes I just wallow in it because I need to really feel to know what I need for growth. But the reason I can shift so quickly is because this is a daily practice. We are all constantly changing so we have to be willing to shine light where there is darkness. I have done this for myself before.
