 All or Nothing

A theme I’ve found with many of my clients who struggle with all or nothing thinking with food is that it presents in most every other area of their life too

The past month I’ve heard:

I probably shouldn’t watch tv so I’m going to stop doing that and instead do .

I don’t have a morning routine anymore but I’m going to do these 10 things from now on because right now I’m doing absolutely nothing and I used to do those 10

My husband and I haven’t spent much time together, I should stop doing this & just give him all my free time

I can’t stand how I look in my improvement season & I body check a lot so I’m just going to wear all my baggier clothing & not look in the mirror or workout in front of one

I don’t eat enough veggies & fruits I’ll meet all my carbs with just that

We are high achievers who want to do the very best and we often associate any lack in performance with extremes

We also criticize ourselves harshly because people see us as these above average go-getters

It is much easier to go to an extreme than to find a happy sustainable medium

Extremes are also much more promising and predictable and if you’re type A or like to be in control of things this will probably be very appealing to you

But when the pendulum swings the other way it creates this vicious back and forth and high and low of satisfied and proud to disappointed and ashamed

Our brains and bodies want us to find homeostasis, find the middle, the baseline, the set point, the place where we aren’t having to over adapt or react here to compensate for what’s happening over there

Mentally, this will likely be a challenge for you to overcome if you’ve always gone from one extreme to the next

But start with something simple in your day to day life such as cleaning 5 minutes per day instead of a super in depth long adhd triggered style cleaning rampage every weekend

Or attempt to read 1 page of a book every day instead of needing to finish a book by the end of the every week because an influencer said to do it

Test your ability to challenge all or nothing ways and see how it positively impacts your life, peace of mind, perspective, & habits

Let me know how it goes
