Why are each of these points important? I will break down the thought process / reasoning for every bullet below:
1- If your goal is being fit into your life then you may be more likely to sustain it, if your life is having to fit into your goal, it may be more difficult to adapt and sustain it. HOWEVER, sometimes life needs BIG changes for even BIGGER goals. πͺ
2- This is where this bullet comes in...check in with your core values. If the goal you set does not align with what you value at your core, you will be less inspired to take actions needed to achieve the goal... so now that BIGGER goal won't come at the expense of the most important aspects of your life but it will cost you some of what no longer serves you (thank GOD) π―
3- What stage of change are you in? It may seem like a basic overused term but it is often not even applied or considered in goal setting...we have to be realistic with ourselves, know your stage of change so you can know what is reasonable to expect. You want to expect of yourself enough to challenge you but not so much of a challenge that you want to run from the goal π
4- The final bullet point is created as a way to proactively prepare you for possible bumps in the road or resistance. You might not realize that part of you is scared or not ready for this success or maybe you will realize that there are things which might come up, and have in the past, that you need to prepare for to set yourself up for success. It is better to identify them ahead of time than to get to every bump in the road and not know what it is or how to get through it. Have game
plans that are considerate of possible defenses in your mind (sabotage) as well as for offenses of life (excuses, circumstances, unexpected events)π
